Here's a cool story I wanted to share with you.

One weekend, I had the absolute pleasure of co-leading a meditation course with the most amazing group of ladies. Getting there turned into a little adventure of its own! I’m not usually one for long drives, but this time, I decided to embrace the challenge.

Picture this: me, cruising through a snow blizzard, fog, and high winds—totally unexpected! The roads got a bit icy, and I ended up on some mysterious backroads surrounded by farmland and countryside. Panic tried to sneak in, but a few deep breaths brought me back to my zen place.

And you know what? The drive turned out to be pure magic. No traffic, just me, the open road, snowy trees, and the most breathtaking blue sky. Oh, and that sunset, I had to pull over and soak it all in.

Life's surprises, right?

Now, here's a little something for you to try anytime the Breath of Joy. Find a cozy spot with enough room to swing your arms out to the front, side and up above your head. This can be done on your yoga mat or on a hard surface floor. Take a couple of minutes, and follow these simple instructions:

HOW TO PRACTICE BREATH OF JOY

Breath of Joy is done in 4 parts in rapid succession: a three-part inhale and then a great big exhale. Here’s how:

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and parallel, knees slightly bent.

1. Inhale one-third of your lung capacity and swing your arms up in front of your body, bringing them parallel to each other at shoulder level, with palms facing the ceiling.

2. Continue inhaling to two-thirds capacity and stretch your arms out to the side like wings to shoulder level.

3. Inhale to full capacity and swing your arms parallel and over your head, palms facing each other.

4. Open your mouth and exhale completely with an audible ha, bending the knees more deeply as you sink into a standing squat and swing your arms down and back behind.

Repeat up to nine times. Don’t force or strain the body or breath; simply be absorbed by the peacefully stimulating rhythm. Return to standing. Close your eyes and experience the effects. Notice how quickly your heart beats; feel the sensations in your face and arms, and the tingling in the palms of your hands.

Note: Please do not practice if you have high blood pressure or suffer from any kind of head or eye injury, like migraines or glaucoma. If in doubt ask your Doctor.

Feel that burst of energy? That's the Breath of Joy working its magic!

So, whether you're tackling work challenges, personal shifts, or simply navigating the unknown (like yours truly!), your breath is your trusty sidekick, always there when you need it.

Think of your breath as a stress buster. It taps your nervous system on the shoulder, saying, "Let's take it down a notch." Deep breaths are like hitting the reset button for your mind. Instant focus, instant calm. It's like a cozy hug from the inside out, and trust me, it's a game-changer.

Now, for those of you going through major life shifts—whether it's a career leap or a personal rollercoaster—I get it. It can be a lot. So, here are a few tips to sprinkle some balance and joy into the mix:

Morning Mindfulness: Start your day with a Breath of Joy and a positive vibe. Breathe, jot down your intentions, throw in some good vibes. It's like a shot of sunshine for your soul.

Reflect and Roll: Take a moment to reflect on your goals and values. Does your path align with the fabulous person you are? Adjustments are cool—go with the flow!

Call in the Crew: Don't be shy to share your thoughts. Your friends and mentors are there for a reason. Sometimes, a chat over coffee can be life-changing.

Tiny Wins Matter: When life throws a curveball, break it down. Celebrate each tiny victory, and before you know it, you'll be dancing through the challenges.

Be Your Own Cheerleader: Change can be a wild ride. Be kind to yourself, acknowledge the journey, and remember: it's okay not to have it all figured out.

So, here's to you, to me, to us—embracing the adventure and finding joy in every mindful breath and every joyful swoop. Let the journey unfold, and may each Breath of Joy bring you closer to a renewed sense of purpose and a whole lot of happiness.
